Associate Solicitor


After finishing his schooling in Berkshire, Boyd studied at what is now Nottingham Law School and, after taking the Solicitors Final Examinations at the College of Law in London, he completed his legal training in Bromley, Kent, qualifying as a solicitor in 1994.

Boyd has practiced in criminal law, family law and civil and commercial dispute resolution, appearing as an advocate for clients in the Magistrates’ Courts, County Courts and the High Court.

He moved to Braintree in 1998 and was, until April 2008, a Partner in a well established local firm of solicitors where, in addition to being responsible for the management of business continuity and risk, anti-money laundering, health & safety, professional indemnity and that firm’s Legal Aid Franchise in Family Law, he specialised in representing parties, including children, in family law cases and in civil disputes, including complex personal injury and business disputes.

In 2008 Boyd set up his own firm in Braintree, specialising in children and family law cases as well as in civil and commercial mediation and subsequently opened a branch office in Reading, Berkshire.

In March 2012 Boyd Carter was awarded the Lexcel accreditation by the Law Society of England & Wales.

In May 2013, the practice was acquired by Albin & Co Ltd, with the Braintree office trading as ‘Boyd Carter Solicitors & Mediators’.

Boyd is based mainly at the Braintree office but travels frequently to courts all over London and the South East, and to the firm’s other offices to see clients where that is more convenient.

Over the last 20 years, Boyd has practiced in criminal law, family law and civil and commercial dispute resolution, appearing as an advocate for clients in the Magistrates Courts, County Courts, the single family court and the High Court.

Boyd is a Member of the Law Society of England and Wales:

As a result of his Courtroom experience, Boyd is a Solicitor-Advocate (Higher Courts Civil), having been granted the right by the Solicitors Regulation Authority to conduct advocacy in all cases in all civil courts.

Boyd is a trained Civil and Commercial Mediator in the Harvard Business School method of principled negotiation accredited by ADR Chambers UK.

Boyd is also an Arbitrator and member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators:

Boyd is also accredited to carry out Children Scheme Arbitrations and is a member of the Institute of Family Law Arbitrators:

Boyd has been on the Law Society Children Panel (Children & Adult Representative) for 20 years.

Boyd is also a member of the Solicitors’ Association of Higher Court Advocates:

the Association of Lawyers for Children, an organisation of lawyers representing children which exists to promote access to justice for children and young people within the legal system in England and Wales. Within that framework, its aim is to develop and improve the practice of lawyers in meeting the needs of children who become involved in legal processes by promoting standards of best practice:

Boyd’s interests and hobbies include cars, food, films and music….as well as trying to play guitar.
